What could be better than dyeing your own yarn and then knitting it up into something amazing!
Book two classes at once using this combo class and save 15%!
Class 1: Yarn dyeing
In the first class you will dye your own yarn using acid dye and vinegar. We will hand paint our yarn making some gorgeous multi-coloured unique yarn.
You can leave your yarn to dry at the Craft Room, and prior to the sock class we will wind it up into a ball ready for knitting. Your yarn will need a few days to dry, so we advise you to leave a week between the dyeing class and the start of sock knitting. This class includes 2 skeins of yarn – one should be sock weight for your socks in part 2. The second skein can be anything you like since you will only need one skein for a pair of socks. We recommend that you wear old clothing or bring an apron to prevent splashes of dye – we will provide gloves and all other materials.
Classes 2, 3 and 4: Sock knitting
In classes 2, 3 and 4 we will knit our yarn into a pair of socks! We need three sessions to complete all the sock techniques – so please be sure to book a time for “sock 1” “sock 2” and “sock 3” classes.
Class 2: we will learn how to use double pointed needles (dpns), make a long tail cast on and learn to knit in the round.
Class 3: we will learn how to turn the heel of the sock and knit the gusset
Class 4: we will finish the foot, shape the toes and finish with kitchener stitch to graft the toes together.
There will be homework between the classes to knit the leg and the foot of the sock so please leave adequate time between them (recommended: a week between each class).
This class includes a multi-size sock pattern and bamboo double pointed needles. You must be able to knit and purl confidently for this class, but no other pre-requisites are necessary.
You need to bring:
An apron for the yarn dyeing class – or just wear old clothing that you don’t mind getting splashed with dye.
All other materials are provided for the two classes.
Who is the class suitable for?
You need to be able to knit confidently for the sock classes.
How to book?
Booking a class is a two step process – you need to book a time slot for each class (yarn dyeing and three for sock knitting) – we recommend you leave a week between each of the classes – and then also make the payment. So that you can be directed through the process we recommend that you first add the package of classes to the basket by clicking the button above and then search for the times via the link. Nothing will be finalised until you checkout and pay – it is always possible to remove the class from the basket if you can’t find a suitable time. Appointments won’t be valid until the payment is received.
