What could be better than dyeing your own yarn and then knitting it up into something amazing!
Book two classes at once using this combo class and save 15%!
Class 1: Yarn dyeing
In the first class you will dye your own dk weight yarn using acid dye and vinegar. We will hand paint our yarn making some gorgeous multi-coloured unique yarn.
You can leave your yarn to dry at the Craft Room, and prior to the shawl class we will wind it up into a ball ready for knitting. Your yarn will need a few days to dry, so we advise you to leave a week between the two classes. This class includes 2 skeins of DK weight yarn for your shawl. You can make them the same or create a contrast to use in striping for your shawl. We recommend that you wear old clothing or bring an apron to prevent splashes of dye – we will provide gloves and all other materials.
Class 2: shawl knitting
In the second class we will knit our yarn into a simple shawl, learning about shawl shaping and how to design your own shawl. You can add lace techniques into the shawl or just knit it plain – with hand dyed yarns often plainer designs work best to showcase all those amazing colours. You must be able to knit and purl confidently for this class, but no other pre-requisites are necessary.
You need to bring:
An apron for the yarn dyeing class – or just wear old clothing that you don’t mind getting splashed with dye.
All other materials are provided for the two classes.
Who is the class suitable for?
You need to be able to knit and purl confidently for the second class.
How to book?
Booking a class is a two step process – you need to book a time slot for each class (yarn dyeing and shawl knitting) – we recommend you leave a week between the dates – and then also make the payment. So that you can be directed through the process we recommend that you first add the class to the basket by clicking the button above and then search for the times via the link. Nothing will be finalised until you checkout and pay – it is always possible to remove the class from the basket if you can’t find a suitable time. Appointments won’t be valid until the payment is received.
